Deadpool's long, strange, f*ck-filled journey to the big screen

Deadpool the movie exists because a bunch of different people did things they really shouldn't have.

It all started even before the key players in today's story — co-writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, who spoke to Mashable ahead of Deadpool's Feb. 12 release — got involved. It started, in fact, with X-Men Origins: Wolverine, one of Hollywood's more despised super hero movies.

Fox released X-Men Origins in 2009. The film featured a bizarre, nightmarish take on Deadpool that went against everything the comic book anti-hero was famous for: In this movie, the so-called "Merc with a Mouth" didn't even have a mouth. Read more...
