Tanzanian woman assaulted in India's Silicon Valley, but local government says attack not racist

Last week, a 21-year-old Tanzanian woman was beaten and stripped by an angry mob in Bengaluru, popularly known as India's Silicon Valley, after a Sudanese student's car ran over a local woman in an unrelated incident. Five people have been arrested in the ongoing investigations, but the Karnataka state government has denied that the attack was racist.

The incident happened on the night of Jan. 30, after a Sudanese student ran over a local woman, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, in the city's Hesarghatta area. While the woman died on the spot, her husband was injured. Enraged, the crowd attacked and torched the man's car, but he managed to escape. Read more...
