360-degree photos are nothing new. Google introduced Photo Spheres quite a long time ago, though the stitching method was never great. However, we’re seeing the proliferation of dedicated 360-degree cameras lately, and 360-degree photos are getting more popular.
Starting tomorrow, Facebook is adding support for 360-degree photos. Though many users will never upload them because 360-degree cameras are a bit niche, the possibilities for businesses, bands and celebrities are endless. Some of the first 360-degree photos to be posted by Paul McCartney and NASA.
The feature will roll out across Android, iOS and desktop and will even support virtual reality headsets like the Gear VR. It’ll be cool to see what people start posting when this feature rolls out.
