Twitter’s ‘Magic’ acquisition is going to make Periscope videos much sharper

Twitter has just acquired a fantastically named startup called Magic Pony, which specializes in visual processing techniques using machine learning. The point of it all? Making sharper live video. Magic Pony’s research centers around using neural networks to intelligently process visual features. Basically, it knows what the important bits of an image are to our human eyes, which means compression and sharpening algorithms can be catered around preserving and enhancing those parts.
