Verizon, like the other major U.S. wireless carriers, has its sights set on the rollout of 5G wireless network coverage. But network availability is only part of the puzzle, and the big red wireless carrier also needs devices to access the coverage.
Well, Verizon is coming out swinging next year. The carrier has officially announced that it is teaming up with Samsung to launch Verizon’s first 5G smartphone in the first half of 2019. Unfortunately that’s all we’ve got to go on here, as Verizon isn’t confirming a specific launch date just yet and Samsung hasn’t officially announced which of its devices will be supporting 5G early next year.
We do know that the new smartphone will include Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Mobile Platform under the hood. The Snapdragon X50 5G NR modem will facilitate the adoption of 5G network speeds. The modem and antenna will integrate with an RF receiver, along with RF front-end and other antenna elements.
Verizon will start the 5G network rollout in “early 2019″, but no specific dates again. After that initial launch, Verizon says it will expand “rapidly”, but there’s no word on which markets will be getting the 5G love first.
So, 5G is on the way! Are you planning on adopting the new network technology as soon as you can, or will you wait a bit to give it time to mature before you make the switch?
