Beating Pokémon Stadium for the Nintendo 64 is no easy task. Speedrunner Mark "Werster" McKenzie has not only completed the game multiple times, he just beat his own world record with a run time of 20:09:49, too — over 20 hours of Pokémon battling.
Werster's world record Pokémon Stadium run on Sunday crushed his previous record of 27:05:27, which he set in March 2015. To even get to that point required a ton of skill and knowledge of the game, as well as endurance. As of now, Werster is the only person to even hold a time on Speedrun.com for completing Pokémon Stadium.
The huge difference between Werster's previous record and his new time was due to a mixture of finding faster routes through the game, using improved fight strategies and a little bit of luck from the game itself. He said he spent about 400 to 500 hours planning out this run. Read more...
