The
Apple iPhone XRdoes not offer users the opportunity to use 3D Touch. To replace 3D Touch, Apple added Haptic Touch to its lower priced 2018 handset. This feature allows users to long-press the screen and feel Haptic Feedback to turn on a new feature.
As 9to5 Mac points out, holding down the spacebar with a long-press will turn the QWERTY keyboard on the iPhone XR into a trackpad.
While some 3D Touch features like Peek and Pop will most likely never be found on the iPhone XR due to the necessity of the screen to "feel" the difference in the pressure placed on the display, Apple has been able to come up with a way for users to Peek and Pop inside notifications on the device's LCD screen. The result is that the user sees the same information as though he used 3D Touch on a notification that popped up on the
iPhone XSand
iPhone XS Max(see image at the top of this article).
This is available to iPhone XR users once the iOS 12.1.1 beta is installed by those registered with Apple as a beta tester for iOS. If everything goes well for Apple, all iPhone XR users receiving iOS 12.1.1 will see this in the final version of the software, expected to be launched before the end of the year. There is no difference how these expanded notifications look on the
iPhone XS,
iPhone XS Maxand iPhone XR. Since the first two units use 3D Touch, the expanded notifications will pop up quickly on those models as the devices figure out whether the user is pressing harder on the screen. Those with iPhone XR will have to wait for the screen to determine if they are pressing longer than normal to expand the notifications. Either way, the difference will be measured in seconds, and the results will be the same.
