On this date in 1898, Emmett Leo Kelly was born. Kelly was a circus performer best known for his clown persona Weary Willie, who was based on a hobo rather than the cheery, goofy clown stereotype. I have no idea how one is supposed to celebrate the memory of a hobo clown, but if you can think of something, today’s the day to do it.
