When Harvard students protest because an attorney on the faculty agrees to serve as part of the defense team for Harvey Weinstein, you can continue with your morning coffee because no one ever accused Harvard undergraduates of being practical and in the trenches of life. When the faculty agrees, no surprises there, because the tenured faculty is left-wing and divorced from the real world.
But when the administration relieves that attorney of some of his responsibilities (Dean of one of the halls), then that becomes classic stupidity and anti-intellectualism. It seems that we are not, despite the Constitution, deserving of a trial and entitled to a defense. If Harvard believes you’re guilty or sinful then you don’t deserve your day in court, and if you defend that person, you’re equally guilty.
Hollywood stars and business executives (most of whom are also divorced from daily reality) are bribing people to get their kids into this Animal Farm, into Brave New World? You ought to bribe someone to get them out of this academic scientology.
