The newly introduced Nokia 8.1 launched with Android 9 Pie available out of the box, but for owners of the Nokia 8 the wait is stretching on a bit longer.
However, there’s a bit of good news, as long as you like trying out prerelease software, that is. Chief Product Officer at HMD Global, Juho Sarvikas, took to Twitter recently to confirm that it is launching a Beta Labs for the Android 9 Pie update and the Nokia 8.
Thank you for your patience. Since you had to wait a bit longer than expected for Android 9 on your Nokia 8, we decided to make an immediate Beta Labs release. Please join us in finalizing the commercial release – your feedback is extremely valuable https://t.co/siaoX5g3vj pic.twitter.com/s33qsBAgOq

This is good news not just for the Nokia 8 owner who likes using beta software, but also good news for Nokia and HMD Global, who will take the data they get from the beta release to build a better, more stable public version of the Android 9 Pie update. Unfortunately, there’s no word on when that public release is going to happen.
If you have a Nokia 8 and don’t mind using early software, check it out and let us know what you think of Android 9 Pie on your device in the comments below.
